I am writing to request that you cover the issue of human population growth, which many world leaders understand to be the greatest issue we will face in the coming years -- all across the planet and right here at home.  We must humanely slow and stop this trend before the unprecedented numbers of people further overwhelm our vital resources: petroleum, fresh water, topsoil, forests, and many others.

Recently we have seen how many thousands of innocent people can be wiped out when they live in areas prone to natural disasters. As the population increases, more people are moving to vulnerable areas, leading to greater destruction and higher death tolls each time a disaster occurs.  Such a preventable and tragic loss of life is unacceptable.

Please investigate and report on the crucial connection between increasing population and our other major problems.  Too few people comprehend that the world's population has doubled in the last 40 years and that we continue to add the equivalent of another Los Angeles and Chicago every month.  Too few comprehend that world population is increasing by over 70 million per year, net gain.  And far fewer understand the detrimental impact these 70 million have upon many of the world's finite and declining resources.  The impact is staggering, and people and politicians must begin to understand it today.

Here in the U.S. we add 3,200,000 people each year.  Our resources and institutions cannot accommodate the added demand created by this ongoing increase in the decades to come.

By all rights, this should be a huge news story.  By covering this story you will bring attention to the impact population has on our everyday lives.  Highway congestion, urban sprawl, overcrowded schools, loss of freedom, and depletion of vital resources are only a few of the results.

Please take the time to prioritize this story now.  Many understand it is THE biggest news story of our time.
